The room stays empty when the deposit doesn't.
Slotward treats a room like inventory of one. The dates overlap or they don't. The security deposit sits on your connected account until you release it or keep some of it.
No card to start. No sales call. The venue rentals preset is selected on the next step. You can still pick a different one.
A room is a quantity of one
The studio and the courtyard each have quantity 1. A second request for any overlapping day is blocked.
A wedding date is often more than 7 days out
An authorization would expire before a booking made weeks ahead. Those deposits are charged and refunded when you close the rental, in full or in part.
The policy is the pickup date
Cancel before the first day and the deposit comes back. Cancel on that day or later and it can be kept, with a reason.
What the preset fills in
These are starting values. Every service, hour, and sentence can be edited after the shop exists.

Questions
Why isn't every deposit just an authorization?
An uncaptured card authorization expires after 7 days. If the return date is 7 days away or sooner, the security deposit is an authorization. If the return is farther out, it is charged when the rental is booked and refunded when you release it.
Does Stripe charge the day rate too?
No. Checkout moves the security deposit only, as a direct charge on the shop's connected account. The day rate is shown so the renter knows the total. Collecting that amount is between you and the renter.
