Deposits and no-shows: Slotward and GlossGenius
GlossGenius is booking and payments for beauty businesses, with a deposit on a service and a separate no-show fee. Slotward is the deposit and the cancellation window, for one calendar. Slotward is not affiliated with GlossGenius.

What the pricing page listed
GlossGenius's pricing page, checked November 1, 2026, lists Standard at $28 a month, or $24 a month billed annually. Gold is $56 a month, or $48 a month billed annually, for businesses up to 9 staff. Platinum is $168 a month, or $148 a month billed annually, for teams of 10 or more. The FAQ says GlossGenius does not offer a free plan, and that any plan can be tried for 14 days with no credit card. That FAQ states an in-person card rate of 2.4% + $0.15. The plan cards list online invoicing at 2.9% + $0.30.
A deposit is a dollar amount on a service
GlossGenius's deposits article shows the date October 17, 2026. It says members can require a deposit at booking. The setup steps say you turn Require Deposit on for a service and enter a dollar amount. The client sees that a deposit is required. Deposits on several services are added into one charge. The article says you can leave deposits off, exempt existing clients, or skip the deposit on one appointment you book yourself. If you manually approve requests and you decline one, the article says the deposit is returned. The pricing page lists built-in deposits, cancellation and no-show policies, and card-on-file policies. The text checked that day does not say a lower plan removes them.
A client cancellation keeps the deposit
The deposits article says the deposit is charged at booking and is non-refundable, and that if the client cancels, the deposit stays with the professional. If you cancel, you have the option to refund. Moving the visit to a new time does not change the deposit. The article also says you can still charge a no-show or cancellation fee, up to the appointment value, on top of the deposit. It says 100% chargeback protection is for Gold and Platinum members. Slotward does not add that second fee. Outside the saved window, a client cancellation refunds the deposit. If you cancel, Slotward refunds even inside the window.
Card on file is optional, and the deposit rate was not a number
GlossGenius's no-show protection page says you can require a card on file for new clients, for all clients, or for no one, and that no-show or late-cancellation fees are collected at your discretion. It says deposits are processed at the card-not-present rate. That rate was not printed as a number on the page checked November 1, 2026, so it is not quoted here.
What Slotward does
Trial, price, and who is paid
Slotward is $39 a month or $390 a year after a 7-day trial. The trial starts when the shop is created, and no card is required to start. The client pays the deposit on your booking page. That charge is on your Stripe account. Slotward does not add a fee on top of the deposit.
The window runs itself
You write the cancellation wording and the hour count. Clients read that before they pay, and they get a manage link after they pay. Cancel outside the window and the deposit refunds. Cancel inside the window and you keep it. A no-show is kept, and you mark that after the visit was supposed to start. If you cancel the appointment, the deposit is refunded even inside the window. The window in force at booking is stored on the appointment, so a later edit does not rewrite it.
What this version does not do
- One shop and one weekly calendar. A second person needs a second shop. There is no staff roster and no waitlist.
- Every bookable service has a deposit. You cannot list a service on the booking page with the deposit turned off. The deposit is a flat amount or a percent of that service.
- The deposit is collected at booking. This version does not store a card to charge a second fee after a no-show, and it does not send reminder texts.
- No point of sale and no in-person register. Slotward books the time and takes the deposit.
Questions
Does GlossGenius have a free plan?
GlossGenius's pricing FAQ says it does not offer a free plan. It says a new customer can try a plan for 14 days with no credit card. Slotward's trial is 7 days, also with no card, then $39 a month or $390 a year.
Who keeps a GlossGenius deposit if the client cancels?
GlossGenius's deposits article says a client cancellation leaves the deposit with the professional, and that if the professional cancels they can refund it. Slotward follows the window saved on the appointment. The client gets the deposit back when they cancel outside that window. You keep it inside the window. If you cancel, Slotward refunds even inside the window.
Can GlossGenius charge a no-show fee on top of the deposit?
The deposits article says you can charge a no-show or cancellation fee up to the appointment value, in addition to the deposit. The no-show page says those card-on-file fees are collected at your discretion. Slotward does not add a fee after the visit. The deposit taken at booking is the amount the window can keep.
